About

Westerly Konsort Duo - 1987 - £29,950 A well updated; re-lined, re-engined and re-upholstered example. If you are in the market for an indulgent 2+2 motorsailer that can take the ground then this is the 'must-see' Konsort Duo to view.

Epoxied beneath the waterline in April 2005, this Duo's rig has also been up-rated, with a behind-mast furling mainsail system fitted in 1990 and Hood's Seafurl headsail furling system fitted, together with a 'Starcruiser' genoa in 2004.

The engine was replaced by the local main Volvo Penta dealer in December 2009 for the 2010 season, since when the engine has only seen 205 hours running. The interior was re-lined and the upholstery was replaced in a neutral blue fabric at the same time and shows little evidence of wear. As a whole 'Whistler' is a dry and clean example and is only now on the market due to unforeseen and regrettable medical circumstance. An inflatable tender may be available by separate negotiation.
Accommodation
Up to five berths laid out in two cabins, with 360 degree visibility from the deck saloon, linear galley to port within the deck saloon, larger than average heads compartment and indulgent forward double master cabin, with offset double berth to starboard. All cushions and upholstery were replaced in 2009. The cabin linings have also been replaced. Hot & cold, pressurised water is provided. A 240 AC electrical system is fitted, including an immersion heater within the domestic hot water system. Forward (Master) cabin: Notably generous in size for a 29' vessel, the forward cabin boasts a large double berth that is offset to the starboard side (with a oodles of storage beneath) and deep storage shelves to the hull sides. There are also a couple of drawers between the berth and what was termed the 'vanity unit' that is located to port side. In reality this latter is formed over the tunnel provided for a generous single berth (rather like a traditional and secure quarter berth) that runs forward from the vestibule area, opposite the heads compartment's door. The 'vanity' unit's fiddled surface is more usually used for convenient placement of a holdall style of bag. Abaft the head of the berth there is a shelved and generous hanging locker.

Heads Compartment: Located to starboard, ahead of the internal helm's position, this compartment extends fully to the centre-line of the vessel and features a large, moulded hand basin unit with integral wipe down surfaces and moulded draining floor reflecting its intended use for showering too. A marine flushing toilet has been supplemented with a holding tank having been fitted. Light and ventilation is provided by a factory-fitted overhead hatch, together with a solar-powered ventilator. Main Saloon: Laid out to provide a dinette to starboard, with seating intended for up to four (but in truth more comfortable for two) the table may be lowered between the seats and then with the backrest cushions in-fill to facilitate a double berth conversion. Significantly, the bottom of the window-line outboard of the table and dinette seating is comfortable below shoulder level - indisputably ensuring easy visibility of all that is going on around the vessel. A surprisingly generous hanging locker for wets is located immediately inside the companionway access, abaft the galley. The internal steering position's seating is achieved by simply turning the dinette's forward seating's backrests to face forward, with the wheel located to starboard forward corner of the deck saloon, with sailing instrumentation, VHF and 12v DC distribution panel fitted here too. Galley: Running down the port side of the deck saloon; the galley is linear in design, with relatively large, uncluttered work surfaces to either side of a stainless steel sink and a full two burner, grill and oven gimballing cooker is provided, beneath a hinged and lifting cover/additional work surface. Two drawers and three large lockers are incorporated within the galley unit, while a front-opening fridge is located opposite, within the inboard end of the dinette's forward-most seating.

Mechanical and Electrical systems
Fitted with a Volvo Penta D1-30 (29hp), three cylinder, indirectly cooled diesel in Dec. 2009 to replace the original 28 hp Volvo 2003. The propeller shaft, flexi-coupling and three-bladed propeller were all replaced at same time. Only 205 running hours currently recorded. A stainless steel rope cutter by Ambassador Marine is fitted ahead of the propeller.

Three lead acid batteries (dating from 2015) are fitted, with two 105A/hr batteries constituting the 'services or domestic' battery bank and a single 105A/hr battery dedicated as the engine cranking battery. Charging is by means of the engine-driven alternator plus a deck-mounted PV (solar) panel and 240V AC battery charger, when connected to a shore support.

A new Pro-sport battery monitor and charging regulator by Sterling was fitted in 2015.
Tankage
Fuel: 227 litres (50 imp galls) in replacement stainless steel tank to original dimensions and design.

Freshwater: 454 litres (100 imp galls) total in two, linked stainless steel tanks located on the centre-line, beneath the main saloon.

Hot Water: 45 litres (10 imp galls).

Holding Tank: 40 litres (8.81 imp galls).
Sails and spars
A masthead sloop on original aluminium spars with a retro-fitted, behind-mast mainsail furling system by Tab Sails of Poole. Headsail furling system supplied by Hood Sails replaces the original Rotostay system. Much of the main running rigging is brought aft to the cockpit.

Standing rigging, replaced March '98. subsequently inspected and renewed as necessary in May 2010. Mainsail, by Tab Sails (1990). Genoa, by Hood to their,'Starcruiser' spec. with foam-filled luff to improved the reefed sail shape (2004).
Deck Equipment
12V DC electric windlass by Lewmar (fitted 2010). 25 lbs CQR anchor with 30 metres of chain. 10 kgs Bruce anchor. Danforth-type kedge anchor. Full acrylic cockpit enclosure (new 2013), plus older 'winter' canopy. Modified to 'towing' genoa sheet cars (adjustable within reach of the cockpit). 2 off 12V DC deck sockets in cockpit. Stainless steel swimming boarding ladder. Outboard engine stowage bracket located within starboard cockpit locker. 2 off deck scrubbers. 1 off mooring crook. Minimum of 6 inflatable fenders.
