Twister 28 - 1974 - £11,950 The Twister needs little introduction. An outstanding long-keeled classic designed by Kim Holman. With elegant lines and superb, well-mannered performance, these capable little cruisers have voyaged far and wide, and are just at home in the middle of an ocean as they are in coastal waters. This all GRP Twister 28 has only had 3 owners - the current ownership having lasted 28 years with a long-distance cruising pedigree Hull & Deck moulded by the Tyler Boat Company of Kent and then fitted out by her first owner to a very high standard - He must have been a man who understood and could work hardwoods well, with much of the material that was used internally reportedly salvaged from the Royal Burnham Yacht Club! She is robustly constructed throughout and has emulated her sister ships' reputation for long distance passage-making.
4 Berths in two cabins with a separate heads compartment.
Saloon berth cushions have been recovered in hard-wearing, fawn-coloured canvas finish material.
A CD/radio unit is fitted for entertainment. The accommodation provides headroom of approx. 5'10" through most of its length, although a slightly rising sole in the for'cabin and heads compartment limits the headroom to around 5’8” under the for'hatch and 5'6" in the heads. The forward cabin is fitted with conventional "V" berths with lockerage beneath and a modern Gebo hatch has been fitted overhead.
Moving aft, the heads compartment is to starboard fitted with a Lavac sea toilet and small stainless steel wash hand basin with pumped fresh water. Opposite to port there is a well-proportioned hanging locker and a Koolatron 12v cool box is located here. The main saloon has two settee berths each side running aft into trotter boxes under the Nav. table & Galley areas. These berths have been widened to give more generous sleeping width and a rebate on each inboard side was provided to enable the sole to be bridged between the individual berths to create an athwartship double berth (albeit for short crew members), or for use on the 'diagonal' by a single taller member of crew.
Aft to port, there is a generous sized chart table with chart stowage within and a closed locker beneath, adjacent main electrical panel and closed locker outboard. Access aft to a further large closed locker. The Galley is situated to starboard, opposite the navigation area, and is equipped with a 2 burner Origo 3000 alcohol cooker and an inset stainless steel sink with manually pumped fresh water. Open plate and bottle stowage behind and aft of sink.
There is a relatively large galley working space inboard of the cooker and the adjacent engine space cover offers additional working space. The bottom companionway step conceals a rubbish bin.
Auxiliary power is provided by a rugged, sea water cooled, two cylinder 18hp Sabb 2H diesel engine. The engine was fully overhauled around 1000 hours ago and total running hour from new now showing as 3019 hours.
Drive is through a variable pitch propeller with separate clutch to provide forward and reverse gear. The propeller can be feathered within its aperture to minimise sailing drag. 2 X 110ah lead acid batteries are charged by an engine driven alternator while a 10w Solar panel mounted on aft deck, provides trickle charge maintenance of the batteries when the vessel is left unused.
The stainless steel fuel tank is located in the starboard cockpit locker and the water tank beneath the Saloon sole.
Sails and Spars:
