COMMENTS:

Built by the world-renowned Camper & Nicholsons at their Southampon shipyard, LORD JIM was completed in 1977 to the very highest of specifications and in accordance with the rigorous Lloyds 100A1 class rules.

Designed for circumnavigation duties in her first private ownership, she benefits from a surprisingly slippery hull shape, powerful twin Detroit diesel engines (giving effortless double digit extended cruising speeds), an easily managed ketch rig configuration and most importantly, a bullet-proof steel hull to protect her occupants in any and all conditions. LORD JIM is in many respects, the ultimate all-weathers world-girdler.

Within her 6mm-plated steel hull and aluminium superstructure is the most beautifully crafted mahogany interior providing supreme levels of comfort and versatility for 6 guests in the aft end in three luxurious ensuite cabins and 5 crew in three further cabins in the forward sections. Her raised pilothouse and offers all-year round comfort along with excellent protection to her outside cockpit areas, whilst her prominent raised bulkwarks and stainless steel guardrails allow safe passage around her teak-laid deck areas.

Following a colourful and well-travelled life in her early ownerships, LORD JIM was acquired by her current owners in 2000 and extensively refitted for further circumnavigation duties and coded for luxury fully-crewed charter. With circa £1 million invested in her over recent years with refits completed in 2001, 2008, 2011/12 and a further £100k spent in 2017, LORD JIM is presented for sale in fantastic ‘ready-to-go’ condition. Freshly MCA-2 coded in 2017, she can easily continue her life as luxury charter vessel, or be used once again to head off on a private family adventure around the world’s oceans.

OWNER’S COMMENTS:

Having acquired and lovingly restored Lord Jim, our Camper & Nicholsons bespoke 24.42 metre (80 ft) steel sailing ketch, we set about sailing around the world. This was a true test and testimony to the quality and engineering used when Lord Jim was built in 1976. Previous to our ownership, Lord Jim was built specifically to sail round the world for an owner whose mission was to amass the finest worldwide shell collection!

On return to the builders yard in Southampton (UK) some four years later and after extensive shell cataloguing in London, the owner was short of some specimens and set off again on another round the world voyage. Sadly, on return to Southampton some 18 months later, he died suddenly and Lord Jim was sold on.

LORD JIM was subsequently re-rigged and re-fitted in Southampton. Becoming a wealthy businessman’s floating hotel was to be her next destiny, sailing from Cannes to Palma during the children’s summer holidays (nothing more, nothing less). After which she was left to await the next family break.

And then there was us! She was beautiful, but neglected – like a greyhound never let off its lead, in need of vision, money and care. Refitted by us in Malta, ready for her epic journey to the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal, passing the Galapagos Islands down through the South Pacific to New Zealand for The Americas Cup. Onward to Australia up past Darwin and then a quick sprint to Thailand. A trek across the Indian Ocean, up the Red Sea, through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean and finally back to the UK.
