Well known to us here at Grabau International ISLAND PEARL II is now in only her second ownership. Having spent the first part of her life doing very little, but always professionally maintained, she was then sailed by her new owners to Australia where she has continued to do very little other than be pampered and upgraded. With a typically comprehensive blue water inventory and many recent updates, ISLAND PEARL II represents a fantastic opportunity to enjoy one of these iconic and unique cruising yachts in Australian or New Zealand waters.
Buying an Amel is akin to joining a clan of like-minded sailors, of which there are many hundreds around the world cruising happily. Amel owners are almost a cult. New owners are brought to the Amel facilities in France and given a week of introduction to their new boat and its systems. Then the new boat normally is sailed on its own bottom, either by the new owner or by Amel’s delivery crew, to her new home. ISLAND PEARL left the Amel factory on 23 January 2001 and sailed from La Rochelle (France West Coast) where the Amel factory is based across to the Canary Islands in the North Atlantic 250 miles off the West Coast of Africa – Morrocco. From 2001 for ten years until December 2011 she was carefully maintained at great expense by the Amel technician based in the Canary Islands. Her first owners would fly over from France occasionally to stay on the boat in the lovely Pasito Blanco Marina on the southern tip of Gran Canaria Island.
Since we are the second owners of this yacht, we missed out on the week-long factory orientation. Whilst this is our seventh sailing yacht, it was always our intention to one day purchase an Amel. For this reason we had already looked at many Amel's on both the east and west coasts of the USA and right across Europe plus done a lot of research on Amel’s unique features prior to us purchasing this particular boat. Despite this, it has still taken us two years of slowly working through manuals and systems and sailing across the Atlantic and in Australian waters, to become fully acquainted with all the great unique Amel features and we could not be happier with any other boat.
We sailed Island Pearl II over the Atlantic Ocean from Pasito Blanco in Gran Canaria to St Lucia in the Caribbean in January 2012. For this trip, and the onwards delivery through Panama and across the Pacific we hired a professional skipper and crew. This provided us with an excellent introduction to the boat, her amazing ocean sailing capabilities, and also invaluable blue ocean sailing training by a professional skipper with over 200,000 ocean miles experience in all types of vessels.
Since arriving back in Australia, we have invest a great deal in fitting her out to our requirements. She now has imported davits, 540w solar panels, new watermaker, 2nd full new Raymarine auto-pilot (2012) with quick change over switch, new radios, 2 X Raymarine chart plotters new 2012, AIS send/receive Raymarine new, full new rigging (2016) imported from Amel's supplier ACMO in France, etc etc.
ISLAND PEARL II is mechanically and operationally she is absolutely sound and ready to go around the world immediately with her new owners. She is also fully duty and GST paid in Australia.

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:
The Amel Super Maramu has a construction technique that is absolutely unique in the industry. The yield is an extremely strong and solid one piece hull and deck assembly; a true monocoque.
The hull uses as solid laminate of biaxial fiberglass cloth and is moulded in one piece incorporating one piece/non-spliced lengths of biaxial cloth running from bulwark, down through the keel/centerline, and up to the opposite bulwark.
The deck assembly is built in a similar fashion but with a core of Baltek vertical end grain balsa in strategic horizontal areas to enhance stiffness and is insulation from heat and noise.
Furniture and structural bulkheads are installed whilst the hull remains in the mould.
Deck assembly is joined to the hull whilst hull remains in the mould with six layers of biaxial cloth to marry the hull and deck with a homogeneous fiberglass matrix to ensure a strong and leak free hull and deck join.

Keel & Rudder:
Wide low aspect ratio encapsulated keel with flat bottom to allow grounding.
The keel has long wings, which not only aid stiffness and weatherlyness, but also act as pitch stabilizers when going 5 knots or better.
The propeller is mounted on the trailing edge of the keel to protect propeller and also reduce noise and vibration in owner’s cabin.
The rudder is hung from a massive full-length skeg assembly that can support the entire laden weight of the vessel in case of a grounding.
The rudder shaft has a conventional stuffing box.

Description of Accommodation from Forward:
The guest stateroom is just aft and has a very large V-berth with 2 single berths. A filler panel and cushion are provided that can convert this V-berth into a large double berth to port with a single berth to starboard. There is a writing desk hung on the bulkhead that easily folds down or up as required.
Just aft to starboard is a very generously sized hanging locker with the guest head opposite to port.
In the forepeak and working aft there is a large chain locker that is isolated from the accommodation by a genuine full height watertight collision bulkhead with a watertight door allowing access into the chain locker.
Just aft to starboard is a large hanging locker with the guest head opposite to port.
The guest head has a vanity with extra deep wash basin, electric marine toilet with holding tank, and an integral shower with a spray curtain to provide a dedicated shower stall area.
The head includes 6 large deep storage cubicles.
The saloon is separated from the forward accommodation by a full height watertight collision bulkhead with a submarine type watertight door.
The saloon contains a very spacious U-shaped dinette with table to port with a settee opposite to starboard.
Outboard of the settee is a pull-out pilot/sea berth with a detachable privacy curtain.
Outboard of the sea berth are very deep storage lockers.
A virtually identical locker arrangement is opposite all the way outboard to port less the television
The storage space in the saloon is virtually unlimited with enough room to store supplies for many months at sea and the ability to store heavy items low down and also to be able to easily retrieve all stored items quickly without having to unpack loads of stuff in order to get to things stored underneath.
Both bench seats at the table have separate highly effective, low energy draw water cooled freezer/fridge units underneath.
The U-shaped galley is located in the port side after quarter of the saloon.
There is plenty of counter space for meal preparation and an abundance of storage both in and about the galley.
The full sized navigation station is aft of the saloon to starboard with the U-shaped galley directly opposite to port.
The navigation station faces outboard with a large chart table and a pylon seat.
There is storage inside the chart table for navigation supplies as well as two drawers and two lockers just beneath.
The navigation station is fitted with all the electronics one could need for safe ocean travelling including radar, GPS units, track computers, fully integrated AIS system which both sends and receives signals, two separate VHF radios, a long range HF radio capable of communicating thousands of miles over the air waves, and full chart table with drawers, chart storage areas and all the necessary items for the skipper and crew to function effectively both in port and at sea.
In addition, a number of handy lockers are within easy reach to store items such as binoculars, winch handles, pilot books and all things needed to run the vessel effectively.
Just next to the navigation station is a shelf for printer (previous hanging locker).
The passageway to the aft cabin contains a single berth with the battery containment compartment just beneath.
The owners' stateroom includes a small settee and queen berth, as well as a nice sized vanity table with swing-out seat. A locker door above the vanity table is equipped with a mirror mounted on the interior side of the door. Mounted on the exterior side of the head door is a full-length mirror.
The owner’s has a genuine full height watertight collision bulkhead at its entry with a submarine style watertight door.
There is another genuine full-height watertight bulkhead at the extreme aft end of the owner’s stateroom, partitioning this cabin from the lazarette accessed from on deck.
The bed in the aft cabin has been extended (completely reversible if required) to form a large super king size bed allowing the owners to sleep either way depending on the tack when sailing. This includes a prestige custom made inner spring mattress with Latex/memory foam top.
Aft Cabin Ensuite Heads:
The owners stateroom has an en-suite head to port that contains a vanity with an extra deep wash basin, an electric Jabsco Marine toilet with holding tank, and an integral shower with a well designed spray curtain that effectively replicates a stall shower.
