MITCHEL 22 SEA ANGLER - IDEAL RIVER DAY BOAT AS WELL OWNERS DESCRIPTION: Moonbeam is a very solidly built Mitchel 22 Sea Angler that dates from the early 1980's. The hull and superstructure are fibreglass. It has spent most of its life as a fishing vessel in the Solent and surrounding waters. We bought her in 2014 and moved her to the Thames in Buckinghamshire. The boat has proved ideal for us, used as a day boat for outings with family and friends. The solid construction and heavy engine make it a very stable and safe vessel. The sheltered wheel house allows the boat to be comfortable even in the winter, and the large cockpit makes it great in the warmer weather. There are two berths in the cabin, although we haven't used them for overnight stays. There is also a marine toilet, but this is not usable on the Thames without fitting a holding tank. We use the boat 3 to 4 times a week in the summer, and slightly less in the winter. We even use it to go shopping in the local town, up river. The boat was craned out in July for cleaning and antifouling, and is ready for immediate use. ENGINE The engine is an 80 HP Ford Dorset diesel, which has proved completely reliable. Maintenance done recently includes cleaning and re-jetting the injectors, installing a new water pump and new alternator. The engine box cover can easily be completely removed to allow access to all engine components for maintenance. This engine is obviously far more powerful than we really need on the upper Thames, as there is a 4 knot speed limit, but as we only need slightly more than tickover speed on the river, it has been very economical. We estimate it only uses about 2 to 3 litres per hour on the river. It can cruise happily at around 6 knots at very low throttle openings; maximum speed is probably around 10 knots, but as we have only used it on the river, we cannot confirm that, because of the speed limit. INSTRUMENTS Apart from the engine instruments for temperatures, currents, and revs, there is a Lowrance M52 Fish finding sonar and GPS Plotter. There is also a Cobra VHF marine radio. ACCESSORIES The alloy anchor is new and has never been in the water. A solar powered ventilator and a new seal for the front hatch have also been recently fitted. There are two batteries, one for starting and one for domestic use, or they can be connected together. There are 4 fenders, 5 mooring ropes and a boat hook. SAFETY CERTIFICATE The current safety certificate runs to January 2019.
