Motor BoatsavailableFaireyHuntsman

Fairey Huntsman 28 sports cruiser classic is for sale. Tom Pepper Two is a beautifully restored, new engined classic motor sports boat. This particular example was built in 1969 and displayed at the 1970 Earl's Court Boat Show on the Fairey Marine stand. Tom Pepper Two has recently been subject to a lavish full restoration and fitted with new Perkins turbodiesel engines. She will cruise comfortably at 25 knots and has a top speed of 30 knots. This is a beautiful boat about which Robert Bingham Yacht Surverys Ltd. commented, 'The vessel is now considered an excellent example of the marque'.

NEW ENGINES
As part of her refit this beautiful motor cruiser was fitted with two 215hp Perkins 125C turbodiesel engines at a total cost of approximately £60,000. These engines start at the touch of a button and propel her at a cruising speed of 25 knots and a top speed just over 30 knots. The engines only have 50 hours running time and were fitted in 2017. The Perkins 215C engines were installed and supplied by MMS Scotland. All new components were fitted to include engine mounts, gearboxes, exhaust systems, fuel system, new shafts , seals (PPS lip seal) and propellers (supplied by Hamble Propellors).
KNOWN HISTORY
Tom Pepper Two was constructed in 1969 and launched in the 1970 for the Earls Court Boat Show of that year. She is hull number 118 it was one of the last Huntsmans to be built. She is one of only and is currently one of only 50-60 survivors. The current owner located Tom Pepper Two in a barn on the Isle of Wight where she had resting for approximately eighteen years, awaiting restoration. The hull had been stripped of everything of value leaving only the bare bones and carcasses of the interior furniture. The current owner purchased Tom Pepper Two intending to restore, a task which was a four-year no-holes-barred restoration. She was relaunched in June 2017. Shortly after relaunch she competed at the Fairey Owners Club annual Concours d'Elégance at which she won the Frolic Salver Trophy for best restoration and the Mermaid Trophy for the best engine installation. In 2018 with further works completed she returned to the Concours d'Elégance to win the best Huntsman Trophy.
HULL RESTORATION (EXTERIOR)
The hull was found in a decent state of repair in 2014 except for two holes, one starboard side forward, the other portside. The areas in vicinity of the holes were stripped back to expose the individual layers and then repaired using layers of Agba (West African hardwood) following the appropriate grain direction for each layer. A total of seven layers, as per the original layup was used to affect the repairs. The rest of the hull was sounded for dull areas and the findings investigated, all necessary repairs were duly carried out following the above stated method. The transom had the stainless steel exhaust outlets removed and repaired as needed. Partway through repairing the hull Rob Bingham Surveying was brought in to check the quality of the repairs and identify any areas that had been missed upon first inspection, areas identified by Rob Bingham Surveying were then addressed. The hull and top sides were stripped back of all existing paint, left to dry and then coated International two-part paint system, Below the water line five coats of two part primer, then two coats of International VC offshore EU antifoul were added. Above the waterline she was painted five coats of two part primer( International Interprotect), two coats of two-part undercoat (International Perfection) followed by five coats of International Perfection Plus in Royal Blue.
HULL RESTORATION (INTERIOR)
The interior was stripped, the main engine bearers were replaced, along with the keel bolts, using galvanised bolts as per the originals. Wear was apparent upon extracting the extant bolts so they were replaced as they are awkward to do later. The remaining keel fittings were found to be in satisfactory condition so were not replaced. The engine bed had been coated in glassfibre, which had become delaminated from the hull. This was removed and the inner layer of Agba stripped back and a new inner layer of Agba applied. All longitudinals were replaced, partial bulkheads were repaired or replaced and re-bolted using A4 stainless steel fittings
DECK RESTORATION
The deck was in a good state of repair and the teak was found to be approximately 6mm thick. The deck was cleaned, repaired in places and then the caulking was raked out and replaced. The teak deck was then given a number of coats of oil.
COACHROOF RESTORATION
The area of the original hatch had, in the past been poorly repaired. This section was taken out and repaired using the same method as that of the hull (Tom Pepper Two also has an agba coach roof as part of the original de luxe specification). The roof was then reinforced on the interior and insulated using armacell class O antibacterial insulation. A new Lewmar hatch was fitted. The windows were removed, stripped and then resealed. The interior and exterior were painted in International two part primer 5 coats, two coats undercoat and three coats Perfection Plus in Snow white.
CABIN RESTORATION
The cabin layout was retained with the exception of an existing L shaped Galley. This was altered to allow a fridge, hob and sink to be fitted. All other woodwork was repaired where needed and repainted/varnished. New cushions and covers in Novasuede material were fitted.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Tom Pepper Two has had a completely new electrical system fitted and upgraded. The new installation uses marine grade tinned wire throughout, using victron energy components all to industry standards. 12volt system supplied via engine alternator and Victron invertor protection via Victron DC 12v Link box (mega fused) 230v system distributed via supplying sockets, battery charger and water heater (via electronic timer).
HEATING SYSTEM
Diesel fired hot air system was installed in 2017, namely a Webasto HL18D 24v supplied by victron 12-24v transformer, remote control+ thermostat, two outlets.
HOT and COLD WATER SUPPLY
There is a flexible water tank under forward seat. A water pump supplies cold water to taps plus calorifier. A calorifier with thermostatic valve supplies hot water heated via immersion and port engine.
ANCHOR and WINDLASS
New Lewmar windlass with controls at helm. Stainless steel anchor on bow roller with 30m of chain.
STEERING SYSTEM
The existing steering system one of the few items not removed. The system consists of a solid rod. This was overhauled with replacement joints and a NOS steering box fitted. This is not only true to the original installation but provides the better feedback from the rudders than any system on the market today.
RELAUNCH SURVEY 'The vessel is now considered an excellent example of the marque.'
A full survey was carried by Robert Bingham Yacht Surveys Ltd. at the time of relaunch in 2017. The full report is available to prospective purchasers but the Conclusion section of the survey reads thus: 'Further to my inspection of Fairey Marine Huntsman (Tom Pepper II) the following conclusion has been established. The vessel has undergone a very extensive refit by the current owner; this has included new engines, gearboxes and running gear. All vessels onboard systems have been replaced or over hauled, fuel tanks cleaned and steering gear serviced. Hull defects and works identified during a hull inspection in the spring of 2016 have been addressed and rectified. The vessel is now considered an excellent example of the marque.'
