In Pictures: The dazzling Moonstone 90m superyacht featuring innovative lighting
Oceanco the Dutch shipbuilder and Van Geest Design have revealed a scale model and concept details for the Moonstone project. This 90m superyacht will feature a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, as well as a never-seen-before lighting system that can give the yacht a unique shimmering hull at night.
Revealed at Dubai International Boat Show 2016 this March, details emerged that the Moonstone will have space to accommodate guests over several generous cabins, including four double suites and two twin cabins.
An expansive owner’s suite has the benefit of a private owner’s deck, complete with a modern spa and gym. Moonstone also features an onboard cinema and a touch-and-go helipad. It will be powered by two MTU 20V4000 M73L engines, generating 3,600kW each, allowing the Moonstone to reach a maximum speed of 18.5 knots.
How does Moonstone’s lighting system work?
Throughout the yacht interior and exterior are cutting edge lighting systems, provided by Temeloy Advanced Lighting Design. The hull sides feature unique panel back lighting, characterised by 300 independent triangles, which can be individually illuminated, creating a spectacular shimmering effect. The result is a unique form of lighting which gives the boat a stunning iridescent appearance at night.
"The Moonstone project has a groundbreaking hull design - with its faceted illuminated panels", explained Oceanco's group marketing manager, Paris Baloumis. "We felt the Dubai boat show is a perfect place to debut this special project.”
