Outboard engine de-winterization tips from RYA and Suzuki
Derek Booker from Suzuki GB uses a 200hp Suzuki 4-stroke outboard engine to demonstrate the essential points of engine de-winterization.
Essential points covered are:
- Checking the oil level
- Draining any fuel out of the water separating filtre and the vapour filtre
- Adding fresh fuel
- Checking the pilot water outlet to show the pumping system is working properly
- Flushing out the cooling system
- Maintaining small portable engines after the winter
The advice is designed to make sure any boat engine that’s been left idle over the winter months will be in the right condition for safe use in spring. The aim is for peace of mind that the outboard engine runs properly, safely and with fuel efficiency.
