Aquastar 33 Ocean Ranger, 1990
Twin Volvo TMD41A, 150HP, 3 berths in 2 cabins, she is equipped with bow thruster, generator, heating and air con, in 2013 she out of the water for an extensive refit to engines and interior. She is coppercoated and is currently ashore for viewings and surveys
In 2013 the follow work was under taken
There are several versions of the 33 hull. The flybridge version is popular but won’t go under canal bridges and rolls somewhat due to increased top hamper. There is also a fishing version that has sparse interiors.
This is an aft cockpit version popular with those who also want to fish and/or go under bridges and live on board. (She also has a collapsible mast). Many were also built with a single engine but twin engines are favourite.
I am a chartered mechanical engineer with professional marine experience and bought the boat knowing that she had spent a lot of her life “pottering” in the French and Dutch canals and the engines were smoky indicating glazed bores. We used the boat locally during 2011/2012 and in 2013 had her out of the water for an extensive refit, most of which I did myself.
Total cost of refit circa £25,000
We then used the boat locally in 2014 and in 2015/16 cruised as “liveaboards” in France and through the canals to the Med and back.
In 2017 we returned to the UK and used the boat for short local trips only until late 2018 we had her lifted out at Quay Lane boatyard. Due to minor health problems she was not launched in 2019 and then with Covid etc she has remained there until now.
This year we decided to sell her and return to sailing which is our first love. I have therefore had her professionally polished and replaced the headlining in the main cabin where it had delaminated.
