The area around the old ports is characterized by various cozy restaurants and shops and features the world-famous eye-catcher, the Cube Houses. The clipper Energie V has been thoroughly renovated by the current owners and guarantees very comfortable living on the water. Outside, the ship is authentic and historic, while inside it is light, spacious, and modern. Are you curious about the Energie V? Then you are warmly welcome on board in the nautical heart of Rotterdam.
Layout
Via a comfortable oak staircase, you descend to the former cargo hold, which has been transformed into a spacious living room with an open kitchen. The many skylights let in a lot of light, making it very pleasant. The pellet stove combined with underfloor heating provides delightful warmth on winter days. The open kitchen is equipped with modern amenities and offers a strong connection to the living room while cooking. Next to the kitchen, we find the toilet, and under the mast deck, the technical room and utility room. Further forward in the ship, you will find the spacious bedroom with built-in wardrobes and an en-suite bathroom. The bathroom features a spacious walk-in shower and a double sink. The generous layout and luxurious materials - hardwood and natural stone - create a relaxing wellness feel. This bedroom is also accessible from the foredeck, ideal for stepping straight into the shower after a swim. In the forepeak, there is also a spacious storage area accessible from the foredeck.
From the living room to the back, you reach the old skipper's house, now used as a second bedroom and home office, via the spacious engine room. Under the floor of this room, there is plenty of storage space. This room also has its own entrance and provides direct access to the spacious aft deck. There is ample space for a nice terrace on the fore, mast, and aft decks, and the new tarpaulin invites you to enjoy the sun terrace in the summer. Thanks to the good insulation of the ship, you can always retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city and relax with a book in peace.
Surroundings
The Heritage Ports of Rotterdam are an iconic part of the city. From the ship, you have views of the famous Rotterdam landmarks both inside and outside: the Laurenskerk, the Willemsbrug, the White House, and the Cube Houses.
All the amenities that make living in the center attractive are within reach.
There is good traffic access via the Maasboulevard to the A16. On the quay of the Wijnhaven, there is parking and charging facilities for cars. For the new owner of this ship, a parking permit is available without waiting time. The metro and train station Blaak is 400 meters away, with a wide network within Rotterdam and the Netherlands.
History of the ship
The ship was built in 1907 at the Meijer shipyard in Beneden Leeuwen. The straight bow is unusual for this type of ship, which normally has a curved tip at the bow. This design likely allowed the ship to fit better in shorter locks. It is built to a high quality and has survived more than 50 years of heavy transport (gravel).
The first known measurement is from 1930 in Arnhem under the name Energie V with a cargo capacity of 118 tons. The markings from this time are still visible in the wheelhouse. In 1936, a new measurement was taken, during which the ship was converted to a motor clipper and extended to 31.43 meters, increasing the cargo capacity to nearly 150 tons. In 1985, the ship was taken out of service and shortened to its current dimensions. The current owners have owned the ship since 2018 and have renamed it Energie V.
The ship is registered in the Register of Sailing Heritage and has a blue passport. It is a welcome guest in other historical ports of the Netherlands.
Mooring options
The ship Energie V has a permanent mooring in the old ports of Rotterdam, managed by the Heritage Ports Foundation Rotterdam. In these heritage ports of Rotterdam, over 100 historical ships with various appearances are moored. Among the residents of the ships, there is a friendly atmosphere, and for maintenance, the shipyard Koningspoort is within reach. In consultation with the manager, another mooring within the Heritage Ports is also possible, such as in the Haringvliet or the Wijnhaven.
The mooring fee is approximately €1,900 per year, including service costs and environmental and waste charges.
Technical details
The Energie V has been fully renovated to current standards in terms of insulation, technology, and installations by the current owners 5 years ago.
The skylights are equipped with double glazing with laminated and tempered glass for extra safety. The other windows have HR++ glazing. The floors are insulated and equipped with electric underfloor heating, finished with laminate flooring. As additional heating, there is a pellet stove for delightful warmth in the winter months. Mechanical ventilation ensures a healthy indoor climate. The technical installations (electricity & water) are fully prepared for off-grid living. Installing solar panels would complete it even further.
The hull is in very good condition for a ship of this age. The underwater ship underwent major maintenance at the shipyard in 2023 and is coated with protective paint and antifouling. The CVO/CBB certificate was renewed in 2024 and is valid until 2031. Additionally, in 2018, the interior of the flat was fully preserved. The above-water condition of the ship is also good.
