Westerly Konsort - 1988 - £16,950 **NEW LISTING** A very nicely presented, FIN keeled example of the very popular Westerly Konsort, well maintained and extensively equipped with many recent upgrades. Designed by Laurent Giles, supplied by Westerly Yachts Ltd. in Nov 1988 to Jubilee Anniversary spec (commissioned Feb 1989), 'Bunbury' with her yard number of E83 and Sail No. KT662, is one of the youngest fin-keeled examples of the ever-so-popular Konsort.

'Bunbury' has been owned within one family for at least 25 years, with the last change of hands between cousins having taken place twenty years ago. Regularly surveyed at five year intervals and in recent years only launched for six weeks' use in the school summer holidays this boat has been professionally and well maintained and we defy anyone to find even a hint of a blister on the bottom! If you enjoy your sailing, but need the volume offered by the Konsort and appreciate the build quality and wooden finish of a prime Westerly-built yacht; all at under 30' then this is the boat to look at. Bunbury's keel areas are 'as dry as a bone', the majority of teak veneers in good order and such features have been enhanced by the professional re-lining of the forward cabin and quarter berth. All this in addition to the replacement of the instrumentation, primary sails and canvas works in her relatively recent past together with a refrigerator (albeit currently unserviceable for some reason) and hot air heating. Be quick - early viewing is genuinely recommended!
Six berths in two cabins with Westerly Blue Sea 'Velvet' upholstery and professionally replaced headlining in the forward cabin and quarter berths and under-side deck head panels. Forecabin with vee berths and infill, side shelving and overhead hatch. Heads compartment: with Jabsco marine-flushing toilet (2013), pull-out wash basin and hand pumped cold water. Under-deck closed locker. Large hanging locker, with divider opposite the heads compartment. Saloon: Parallel settee berths to port and starboard; the port side's settee extends to make a double berth, centreline double-leafed table, quarter-berth to port side, Nice quality, bulkhead-mounted clock and barometer set. 240V AC 13A outlet socket at aft end. Chart table: with chart stowage within and deep fiddled hull-side shelving for almanacs, tidal stream atlases etc. with GPS and VHF located here. 'L' shaped galley: with stainless steel sink, foot-pumped freshwater (cold only), refrigerated top-opening coolbox Currently not serviceable, and an updated two burner stove with oven and grill (Plastimo Neptune 2500). Some crockery (almost 4 place settings), cutlery and a kettle are included.
Mechanical and Electrical systems
The Volvo Penta 2002, twin cylinder (18 BHP) diesel is the original engine, BUT, and significantly, because this Konsort has been dry stored ashore for so much of her life, the engine hours run will have been very low and we've never known a VP 2002 to start as easily and readily as this one. A lip seal by Volvo Penta is fitted to the inboard end of the stern-tube and the original two bladed propeller on the shaft. A generous number of engine spares, including engine and gearbox oil are left on board.

The electrical systems have been updated and upgraded slightly with an additional 4-way circuit breaker panel supplementing the original standard one, with two 110 A/hr batteries serving as a 'Services' bank and a 90 A/hr battery for engine cranking, both switched through individual double pole switches and a bridging link provided. Charging is by means of the engine mounted alternator and a 240V AC (max output 45A) battery charger.
Spars and Sails
Bermudan, masthead sloop rig on Isomat spars (badged as Westerly Masts), with a Rotostay reefing system fitted on the forestay. The standing rigging was renewed in 2012. Halyards and reefing lines are led aft to banks of stoppers and two single-speed winches at the aft end of the coach roof. The main, working sails were purchased in spring 2017 from Swift Sails of Plymouth, but the mainsail was only bent on for the first time in 2018 and is provided with three sets of reefing points and is covered with and supported on the main boom by a blue-coloured acrylic 'Packaway' sail bag and lazyjacks (all new in summer 2018).
Navigation Equipment
Raymarine ST60 wind system, new in 2012. Raymarine ST60 Log, giving speed, log (2012). Raymarine ST60 Echosounder, giving depth (2012). Garmin GPS 128 mounted at chart table. 'Contest', bulkhead-mounted steering compass. Raymarine 54E VHF radio, new in 2012.
Deck Equipment
Deck surfaces are finished in grey-coloured anti-slip paint, with the cockpit seats fitted with 'smooth' finished Treadmaster. Blue acrylic sprayhood on three-hooped frame (Approx. three years old). Named spray dodgers. Acrylic rope tidies. Autohelm ST2000 tiller pilot. Aluminium tiller extension. Stainless steel folding bathing ladder to starboard side of transom. Plough anchor, retained on the stemhead roller. Tricolour and all round white masthead lights, with a steaming light fitted to the forward face of the mast. Outboard engine stowage pad. Red ensign and staff. 6 off inflatable fenders. Minimum of four mooring ropes. Miscellany of spare ropes. Aluminium, extendable boat hook. Inflatable dinghy (note; missing plywood thwart), c/w paddles & pump.
Safety Equipment
Raymarine 54E DSC and GMDSS capable VHF radio. Octahedral, 'rain-catching' radar reflector. Fire blanket. 1 kg dry powder fire extinguisher in main saloon new 2015. 1 kg dry powder fire extinguisher in forward cabin new 2015. 1 kg automatic dry powder fire extinguisher in engine space 2015. 2 off horseshoe lifebuoys. Manual bilge pump. 12V DC electric bilge pump, drawing water from beneath engine & sterntube space. 12V DC bilge level alarm.
As touched upon above, this Konsort has been known to one of our team, James Green, who first surveyed her in 2001, when the current owners bought her from one of their cousins. Subsequently, at the behest of the chosen insurers, he surveyed her at approx. five year intervals until 2016 and since June 2016 and his retirement from surveying James has been carrying out the annual maintenance on behalf of the current vendors - we know this boat very well! Professionally maintained in earlier as well as in later years, 'Bunbury' has been lightly used for family boating that has been restricted mainly to the 6-8 week school holidays for Mum, Dad and two children - the latter have now reached their early teens and the time has come to look for a bigger Westerly, such as a Seahawk or Oceanquest. In recent years the boat has literally been launched in July and laid up ashore again in the first week of September, with the engine being promptly serviced and de-commissioned, sails removed and running rigging laundered as necessary before being stowed below. The boom is always stowed below, together with all the canvas work. In light of the minimal time spent on the water, with the exception of this current year it has been felt that there was no great value in anti-fouling the underwater sections since 2013 and it is fair to say that what coatings are present could do with total removal before a fresh coating system is applied. More pressingly, the surface of the cast iron keel could do with being taken back to bare metal all over - at which point it could be primed using epoxy before the usual tie-coat primer and two coats of anti-fouling paint. The hull's topsides were compounded and polished very well in 2016, with replacement vinyl coveta and waterline stripes applied and then lightly polished again in May 2019. 'Bunbury' represents a rare and refreshing opportunity to purchase an unadulterated and very honest Westerly of prime vintage in notably better condition than the majority.
