Once the main stay Lifeboat serving the RNLI around the coasts of the UK and Ireland, the Arun is probably one of the most proven sea-going vessels in RNLI history. Introduced in 1971 and operational until 2008, 46 Arun's were built and this vessel was build no. 17 and previously named the 'Sir Max Aitken', this vessel served in the Reserve Fleet before decommissioning in 2002. Many still operate as lifeboats around the world. The current ownership has carried out an extensive refit in the past 9 months including the hull stripped and 'Coppercoat' applied, interior improvements and modifications for accommodating crew and reportedly all systems have been checked and are servicable. This vessel currently has MCA certification to Cat. 2 (60 miles from safe haven) - MECAL survey Sept.'14. A supreme example of this iconic design ready for work again - whatever the working conditions! Video available

The Arun has a large upper wheelhouse environment leading to the after deck and upper fly-deck. Below the central engine room is self-contained from the FOREWARD CABIN area providing sleeping quarters for 4 x crew in four 'tiered' bunks (P&S) with privacy curtains before access to the FOREPEAK area currently used for storage with a hatch to deck level. There is a separate HEADS compartment with electric sea toilet (fresh water) and wash/hand basin (H&C). Thoroughfare access to the wheelhouse (port side of helm) or engine room aft is provided through a water tight door. WHEELHOUSE - maintaining the original central helm stance with navigators seat to starboard, the instrumentation for engine monitoring and navigational equipment is all in close proximity with a chart table in front of the navigators position. Suspensions seats at bpoth locations. Aft (S) is a typical dinnette arrangement converting to a double berth and an additional settee/single berth is fitted aft again. A fully functioning GALLEY has been introduced on the port side with stainless steel sink (H&C), Microwave (240v) and Refridgerator installed plus 240v outlets. A large storage unit has been sypathetically built around the main switch panel serving the vessels auxiliaries supply. Access to the AFT STORAGE area and TILLER FLAT is by companionway to port. This area is largely used for storage and a working area with various electrical installations include the Victron 240v shore power, invertor, heater matrix as well at the steering compartment aft. Externally, the vessel allows seamless access to the side decks following the gunnel shear and foredeck with appropriate security rails to and from. There is a open area aft for deck operations and good deck storage areas forward and aft. Port access ladder leads to the FLY-BRIDGE with essential controls duplicated from the main console for independent control of the vessel from this elevated position. A large teak pedestal table sits aft of the helm station but previously a RIB would have been installed here. A Wallis 4Kw heating system is provided with outlets in the accommodation areas (wheelhouse and crew cabin). VIDEO AVAILABLE
