Serendipity - 43

"Mojoe" is a Serendipity 43 Cruiser / Racer produced in the early 80s designed by Doug Peterson.

She had a major refit in 2008 to enable her to compete in various offshore races including:        2008 Newport to Bermuda Race, 2009 Marblehead to Halifax Race, 2010 Newport to Bermuda Race

She also raced successfully inshore winning the Jubilee Yacht club inshore series.

She is now stripped down awaiting refit - but an opportunity to own a superb offshore sailing boat, you could comfortably live aboard. See description for full details

Experience of a comprehensive refit or suitable skills is essential

Construction and General

Construction

"The Serendipity 43 was designed by Doug Peterson to compete in the 1980 Southern Ocean Racing Conference (SORC). These yachts were built by New Orleans Marine of a new epoxy composite. The design was strengthened by airex filled horizontal and vertical ribs in addition to seven 360 degree bulkheads. This design is noted for its light weight, strength, flexibility and double digit speeds"

  • Wheel steering to spade rudder (not fitted)
  • Fin Keel (stripped and undercoated (believed to be epoxy)
  • Masthead rig (stripped)
  • Topsides shot blasted, in preparation for painting
  • Underwater hull shot blasted, in preparation for epoxy treatment
  • Deck mainly stripped of deck gear, some fittings remain fitted
  • Internal headlinings removed
  • Fwd cabin mostly stripped out

General

"Mojoe" is Hull #9 Sail #USA15133 based at Marblehead MA, she underwent a major refit in approx 2007 / 2008 to convert her to an offshore race specification, which seems to have included extending the galley aft to provide the large fridge and freezer and adding the pipe cots in the saloon. The original pilot berths have been converted to storage

Previously called "Jam" as a cruising boat, likely when the pilot berths were converted

Originally called "Jammin" based in Northern Michigan around 1988, inshore racer, rumoured to have a sparkly metallic paint job!
