Finesse - 24
1978 A beautiful traditional clinker sailing yacht of Iroko wood construction with twin bilge plates, one of approx 80 in the UK. Classic Boat Magazine (March 2011) said "There are three words that can be used to describe the Finesse 24 – robust, seakindly and steady". Spacious interior for a 24' boat with two double berths and a good sized galley. A full marine survey in August 2011 showed that all the wood is sound with no soft areas. Her hull was fully stripped back to bare wood in December 2012 and re-treated. She was antifouled December 2012. Her decks were repainted in 2013. All her interior woodwork was re-varnished/painted in 2013. A lovely characterful sailing boat, on the market due to her attentive owner's deteriorating health. 2011 survey report available on request.
Two new batteries (new 2012).
BetaMarine BD722 20HP diesel inboard engine (1996).
Sails and Rig
One main sail, one foresail. Both of unknown age but in satisfactory condition. New battens. New running rigging. New stack pack. New cockpit cover & hatch cover.
The accommodation is straightforward and practical. The interior is flooded with light, thanks to the four large portholes on either side and there is also plenty of standing headroom for a yacht of this size. Forward cabin has opening hatch and storage lockers above and below the double berths, and two side windows. Main saloon has seating for 4 converting to double berth. Galley with 2-burner Tasman 2500 cooker & grill. Heads compartment with porta pottie.
Built by Alan Platt, the Finesse 24 is distinctive in style, with a full-bodied hull, pretty swept sheer, broad transom and perky bowsprit, heavily influenced by the shoal-draught designs of Maurice Griffiths. Under sail she performs well, being reassuringly steady, vice-free and easily handled by a short-handed crew. 2011 survey concludes the boat "is in remarkably good condition" and gives "relatively few recommendations and suggestions, most of which are in the nature of a 'snag-list'."
