VIEWING BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
A WONDERFUL LIVE ABOARD BARGE MAKING THE PERFECT ALTERNATIVE TO A CITY APARTMENT.
Snipe is a lovely Live Aboard which is full of charm and character. She is incredibly cosy and is a credit to her owners. She is a Yorkshire Keel barge built circa 1879 from Iron. Please view the YouTube view as it shows the boat out of the water in October 2014 when it was last surveyed. http://youtu.be/owuRweerBZc.
Snipe has large side deck all around as you would expect from a working barge. The wheel house is fully functional providing you with excellent visibility and has been well restored. Access in to Snipe is via the Stb side door. You step down in to the spacious and well equipped galley/kitchen. On the port side is ample cupboard and tiled work surface, fridge, Belfast sink leading around to the LPG Oven and 4 ring hob. This is next to the wood burning range and hearth. Stb side is yet more tiled work surface and cupboards. Facing aft, there is space for a table and 4 eye level cupboards. The galley is very light and airy and benefits from large sliding windows and a wonderful atrium skylight.
Moving aft from the galley takes you to the first bedroom which is a nice size. It is cosy and practical being fitted with a double bed, small chest of draws and ample of cupboard space. This room is fitted with two sets of small high level doors which help keep her cool on those hot summers nights and there is also a radiator for those cold winter nights too.
Moving aft again. There is a door from the aft cabin in to the large engine room. Engine access is excellent. You can move around the entire engine. Snipe is powered by a Lister JP4 diesel engine via a Parsons gearbox. There is also a radiator and the batteries and inverter/charger are all located here, again with very easy access for maintenance. The vendor has owned the Lister engine for 20 years and believes it is circa 1940. However, it was only installed last year and commissioned at that time. The injectors were serviced, new filters etc. and the starter motor was serviced too.
Moving forward, back through the galley and now into the lounge, the lounge is a wonderful space. It is again bright and airy thanks to the atrium skylight and four large opening windows. Yet still keeps its cosy charm. Snipe benefits from a Morso solid fuel stove which provides the central heating. You then entre the hall/utility room where there is a washing machine water supply, large tiled work surface and cupboard space.
The shower room is port side off hall. Again, this is large and airy. It is fitted with a full size shower, hand basin, corner cabinet a Baby Blake manual sea toilet through two macerators to a holding tank (approx. 30 gallons). There is yet more cupboards a radiator and large opening window.
You then move forward to the Fwd cabin. This is bright and fresh thanks to the light colour scheme. It benefits from two light tunnels allowing natural light in. There is a full size double bed (New mattress 2014), surface space, cupboard space and the deck hatch.
Snipe is a lovely boat and been fitted out to a high standard as her owner is a cabinet maker. The current owners have owned her for 20 years and looked after her well. She would make an excellent alternative to an expensive inner city apartment, offering you more space for much less money along with the versatility of being able to cruse in her. Snipe would be just as at home on the UK or European canal system thanks to her low air draught. Early viewing highly recommended.
