The forward cabin provides 2 large single berths in a 'V' configuration, reaching into the bow, under which is ample storage space. With its 2 side windows and opening roof hatch, plenty of light is allowed to enter this airy cabin. Hot air central heating is piped into each cabin including the forward cabin. This cabin also features 12 volt lighting, reading lights to the head of each bunk, single half-length wardrobe and a roof vent providing further fresh air ventilation.
The main saloon is situated mid-ships and can be accessed via 2 sliding doors, one of which is situated to port and allows access from the side deck; the second from the aft deck next to the helm and down four steps. Seating is in the form of a large and comfortable ‘U’ shaped sofa. There is also a mahogany coffee table which complements the mahogany interior. Again, hot air central heating is vented to the main saloon and, as in all of the cabins, there is ample 12 volt lighting. Because of the Broom 38’s large and stylish side windows and sweeping lower screen, plenty of natural light is also allowed into the main saloon. Other features include drinks cupboards, television cabinet, chart drawer and shelving space. The furnishings in this saloon are: tasteful ocean blue fabric to the seating and complementing curtains to both side windows, together with a hint of maroon, which goes very well with the deep shag pile carpeting throughout and the maroon hood and graphics on the exterior. There is also, for entertainment, next to the designated television cabinet, a CD/radio player. There are speakers mounted throughout the vessel in various places.
The galley is situated to the starboard side and just forward of the main saloon, through a half-height mahogany partition and down three steps. Due to its open nature, its shares the same light and air offered to the main saloon, with the addition of its own opening window and roof vent. The galley is well-equipped with a large 12 volt fridge/freezer, 3 burner hob with fiddle rail, large double oven and grill. Also there is a large stainless steel sink feed by hot and cold mixer tap. There is also a clever corner bin, set into the ash grey Avonite work surface. To make the galley into an extremely usable and functional part of the vessel, Broom have provided deep locker space and cupboard space and large under-surface cupboards.
The dinette is situated opposite the galley to port and has a large ‘U’ shaped sofa area, upholstered in the same materials as the saloon. There is ample space for 5 adults to sit around the mahogany table, which is height adjustable so it can double as an extremely usable table, as well as a functional support which an infill cushion can fasten to, making the dinette sofa area into a double bed. Again, hot air heating is vented into this area with the addition of a clock and barometer, 12 volt lighting and further fresh air ventilation, this is a very comfortable area to work and relax in. There is also a window running the length of the dinette area, below which is found shelving space for ornaments etc. To provide additional light, Broom have incorporated a second opening ceiling hatch. The forward cabin is just forward of the dinette.
Heads and Showers:
The Broom 38 has twin heads. The forward head being just aft of the forward cabin and set to the starboard. It’s a fully self contained locker with manally flushing lavatory with holding tank level gauge, moulded sink with hot and cold mixer tap, 12 volt lighting, a cabinet, mirror, shave point and of course a window providing plenty of natural light. The second head is situated in the aft cabin to port and is a designated toilet with electric flush and all the features of the forward head but with extra space. The shower is a separate compartment, opposite the aft head, on starboard side is a fully contained water-tight locker which is self draining and has the benefit of a seat plus ceiling ventilation, 12 volt lighting and a window, making it an extremely functional and comfortable area to use.
The aft cabin is 3 steps down from the main saloon and situated beneath the rear deck. As mentioned above, it has a separate toilet and shower rooms to port and starboard, between which is a closing and lockable bulkhead door. The main feature of the aft cabin is its large double island bed, which allows 3 sides to be easily walked around and has the benefits of a full dresser and 2 wardrobes. It also has plenty of drawer and cupboard space. Light is provided by tasteful 12 volt ceiling lights, matching reading lights and natural light through both large opening windows to port and starboard and both opening rear hatches mounted in the transom each side of the bed head. These hatches double as escape hatches as well as windows and Broom has cleverly incorporated pull-across blinds to black them out, or pull-across flyscreens to allow ventilation in the summer without the problem of insects. The aft cabin is upholstered in matching fabrics to the rest of the vessel, including a full bed cover.
Main Cockpit Area:
This area is situated on the aft deck, allowing superb internal accommodation space, combined with an excellent position from which to helm. This area extends aft and incorporates a large upholstered ‘U’ shaped sofa with stowable table and 2 pivoting height-adjustable bucket seats for both helmsman and navigator. The addition of foot rail increases the comfort for both helmsman and navigator. Instrumentation at the helm includes comprehensive engine instruments including: water temperature, oil pressure, voltage, fuel gauges for each tank and rudder indicator, isolator switches for other instruments and lighting, bowthruster control and single lever morse control. The aft deck and helm are protected from the elements by a large, sturdy but easily moveable 2 piece hood system, which is supported by the lowering fibre glass radar arch and stainless steel rails. Other features of the aft deck and helm are lockable navigation equipment panel, waterproof lockers, 12 volt lighting, waterproof external speakers and, of course, windscreen wipers to the front of the upper screen. The interior of the boat is accessed from this point via a large perspex lockable sliding door.
