Westerly - CENTAUR 26 SLOOP
Features THIS CRAFT HAS BEEN SOLD BY SIMON THOMAS YACHT SALES. The ubiquitous Westerley CENTAUR is from the drawing board of designer Laurent Giles - responsible for many of the Westerley range in the '70's & 80's and perhaps the most well-known and enjoyed. In excess of 2,500 'Centaurs' were built and continue to offer that essential balance of spacious accommodation with a spritely performance. This craft has the 'A' layout with a practical 'straight line' galley, comfortable seating area and enclosed 'Heads' compartment. Very sensibly priced as owner is moving abroad. The engine was replaced, in 2004, with the equally respected BETA 20hp diesel. This craft is with the Broker. Navigation The vessel carries the following navigation units: - SESTRAL magnetic steering compass - AUTOHELM Bi-data (Log & Depth) - COMPACT VHF SX-25 marine radio - AUTOHELM Tiller auto-pilot (little used) - FURUNO Navigator GPS-30 - these units are reported to be in working order. Located close to accommodation entry, visible from the Cockpit (forward with ability to maintain helm control by traditional tiller handle. Electrical 2 x 120amp/hr 12v batteries - one dedicated to engine start. A professionally prepared switchboard for auxiliary switches, etc. is also found in spaces adjacent to the entry/exit . The engine is fitted with an alternator for charging. Mechanical The vessel is fitted with a British built BETA 20 3-cyl. diesel, installed in 2004 with an integral PRM gear-box. The unit has a dedicated control panel with ignition, start/stop, oil pressure gauge and warning light. The engine drives a three-bladed prop (also new in 2004). Cruising speed of around 5-6 knots is anticipated - subject to sea conditions. The owner reports professional servicing at the beginning of each season. FUEL: TANKAGE: capacity approx 10 glns (44 ltrs) in a stainless steel diesel tank (installed 2003) FRESH WATER: Approx. 20 glns (74 ltrs) capacity with electric and foot-pump operation at the Galley. A manual sea- water pump is also fitted at the Galley. Safety The following safety items* are included: - Navigation & deck lights to Code - Manual bilge pump - Fog horn - 3 x Fire extinguishers+ Fire Blanket - Life-bouy with light - 4 x Lifejackets - 1 x Liferaft - Inshore Flare pack - Jackstays - Stern fitted folding s/s ladder *All safety equipment - where appropriate should be checked for suitability and serviced regularly. Sails and Rig Sloop-rigged with Proctor gold anodised aluminium mast and spars. The stainless steel standing rigging was re-newed in 2007/8 - with a further check made in 2014. Headsail roller furling is fitted on the forestay for the Genoa. (2007/8). The main boom accommodates reefing of the Mainsail. Sail Wardrobe comprises: - Mainsail (age not known) - Genoa by SKB - new in 2007 -Spare Foresails (various - not furling)) Sail controls: 2 x Lewmar 40 Genoa sheet winches with handles, fitted on Cockpit coamings. Halyard winches (x2) at the mast + wooden spinnaker pole. Accommodation From FORWARD: FORE CABIN with two single berths in V-form, each with mattress and stowage spaces under. It is possible to create a double-berth by insertion of an 'infill' tri-angular section between. (It is understood this are not currently provided). A deck-head hatch is fitted for additional light, ventilation and emergency escape. Aft - to Port - is the HEADS COMPARTMENT (solid door closure) with a Jabsco manually operated toilet unit. A small hand-basin - with cold-water tap - and a useful fixed cupboard unit - are included. Opposite the HEADS is an open-fronted hanging space. Proceeding aft is the MAIN CABIN. To Port are two fully upholstered double seats - facing each other with purpose-made cushions - and a table between - which can be lowered creating a base for a 'double berth'. The table is also able to be set-up on the centre line of the Cockpit, where the integral bench seating, includes an insulated 'cold-box'. Returning to the accommodation, opposite the table and seating, is the GALLEY created as a fully moulded 'GRP' unit comprising: - a work-top - with stowage spaces under - - an integrated sink unit, with cold water feed with filter providing fresh water and a ..... Flavel Vanessa gimballed gas cooker with two top burners and an oven and grill. The gas bottle is secured in a purpose-made stowage space within the Cockpit bench seating. A manual valve control and an 'over board' discharge pipe are both located in this stowage space. Returning to the accommodation, sections of the 'sole' (floor) - throughout the accommodation - lift providing access to the bilges. Useful for stowage and inspection of the exposed bilge keel fittings. Further aft - running under the Cockpit seating - are single quarter berths to Port & Stbd - again with purpose-made cushions, matching those in the Main Cabin. Also in the Cabin, immediately under the windows are transparent 'sliding fronts' fitted to the under-sidedeck stowage spaces. This construction and lay-out is repeated to Starboard. The Main Cabin also enjoys a number of glazed 'ports' (windows) fitted to P & S, with curtains (new in 2000). The upholstery of cushions and back fittings were also re-newed at the same time. Headroom in the Main Cabin is 1.85m (approx 6ft). The table can be moved to the Cockpit for 'al fresco' dining. The Cabin-to-Cockpit washboard is made in two parts. The upper section has the alternative of a solid door section or a transparent perspex section - both included. On the centre line aft are the steps from/to the Cockpit. The construction of the steps allows them (in one piece) to be removed to access the front-end of the engine. Access to the gearbox and other 'stern-end' units is reached by removal of the grating and hatch in the sole of the Cockpit. A blue canopy over the entry/exit is fitted, with supporting frame, allowing either folded forward for clear visibility from the helm, or raised to 'protect' the entry/exit from rain, wind etc. Deck The PULPIT and PUSHPIT are purpose-made units, prepared in round-section stainless steel (S/S). Matching stanchions are fitted along both P & S side decks, each with upper and lower s/s safety wires running fore and aft. Stowage lockers are integral in the Cockpit seating - Port and Starboard across the stern. These stern lockers allow access to greasing points for both shaft and rudder operation. A dedicated section - vented over-board - is for the stowage of the gas bottle(s). 'Named' dodgers are secured to the side-deck wires and rails. Forward, a 'Plough'-type anchor rests in purpose-made fitting on the centre line well forward under the Pulpit. The anchor chain and warp are brought to a centre-line manual winch on the Fore deck. The vessel carries a Danforth anchor and chain in a stern locker. Mooring lines, 4 large + 1 small fenders are included as well as a hose for shore-side fresh water supply. The table from the accommodation can be moved to the Cockpit for 'alfresco' dining. An excellant opportunity to get afloat in a craft with proven capabilities'. It is understood a Waveco 2.3m ECO inflatable dinghy (purchased in 2012) with solid transom and floor is included.
