Bowman - 45

This is a rare opportunity to buy a fully kitted out Bowman 45 from the design board of Chuck Paine. There were only a few of the 45's built and this one from 1997 has the addition of a hard-top to add to the comfort and usability of what is widely recognised as an outstanding long distance cruiser.

She was specified from new by these owners to be a long distance cruiser, with good insulation in the hull, a large guest cabin, a watertight bulkhead door forward and heating throughout.

She has taken her owners around the world since 1997 and is now looking for someone new to keep her adventure going.

Electrical and Electronics

B&G Hydro - speed, log, wind speed, direction, depth fitted in 2008.

The hydraulic auto pilot from Simrad was renewed in 2008.

The Kennwood SSB radio from 2003 is connected to the pactor modem 1999.

The satcom C modem from 1998 is linked to the systems and is the centre of the navigation.

The water central heating with 3 radiators has an aero heat exchanger with blower.

There are 6 solar panels 2 from 1997, 2 from 2004 and another 2 from 2010 are fixed on top of the radar arch, the hardtop and the cabin roof.

The inverter has 1200W peak, the 35 AH battery charger uses the shore cable or the  Honda generator.

There are 3 Icom VHF radios  (1997, 2008 hand-held 2011)

The Furuno Radar is from 1997.

The RayMarine GPS plotter 7" screen is a backup in the navigation system, the main is a 13" screen RayMarine in the cockpit with worldwide charts (not the US and Europe)

The entertainment radio with USB and VHF in the main cabin 2011.

There are 2 80 Amp alternators connected to the engine for faster charging.

The boiler can be heated through the engine, the heater and electrical power. New hoses connect them to the engine.

4+1 batteries from 2011 are good for two rainy days.

Sails & Rigging

The Selden Custom rig is white painted with straight terminals on the shrouds. It was changed in New Zealand in 2008, some in South Africa again (they used bad terminals in NZ) and checked in Trinidad 2013. There we changed the spreader end parts to the latest model.

The carbon rudder was delivered from Chuck Paine to the yard. He told us “you can lose the keel but never this rudder”.

The dinghy is in a lift on the transom. It was new in 2011 is 316L and is very stable.

There are two outboard engines, the Tohatsu 9.8 HP from 2009, a Suzuki 2.5 HP from 2010 for stroke.

The Mainsail is from Willis NZ (2003), the head sail from North SA (2010) , the stay sail  US sail (2013), the Gennaker is from North (1997) and a large Genoa North (1997), a jib 2 for the lazy stay for heavy weather.

Accommodation

This Bowman 45 was designed to be cruised in comfort by two people but with space for friends to be aboard for long periods.

The master cabin aft, has a large double and plenty of storage.

the Guest cabin is forward with Pullman berths, a vanity unit and lots of storage in cupboards and under the berths.

The saloon has a further 2 single bunks.

There is a large table with seating for 8 and a galley large enough to make the food to feed them all.

The heads is large and airy with hot water throughout.

The cockpit has the benefit of the fixed screen and covers that extend the seating out of the saloon.
