This Galion 22 is the perfect starter boat. It was designed by Ian Haney and built by Deacon's Boatyard in 1972.
The designer won both the Round the Island race and the JOG single handed race in 1968 in a Galion 22.
This Galion 22, Picolo, has been extensively refurbished and is ready to go. With her long keel and fractional rig she is seaworthy and fast.
The present owner is offering her for sale due to ill health.
Picolo is a sailing boat with a fractional rig and all lines leading aft. She is tiller steered. She comes with a Dolphin petrol engine, inboard, with an additional outboard engine as backup or for wriggling out of tight corners.
She packs a lot of accommodation into her small size. The cockpit is roomy with space for skipper and crew. There is comfortable seating in the saloon which can double as berths. The forepeak has a double v berth (or 2 singles) and conceals a sea toilet below it. The galley comprises a sink and a portable cooker.
The owner has carried out a comprehensive programme of refurbishment, including:
Guardrail staunchion bases strengthened and rebedded;
New genoa roller reefing line;
New topping lift;
New main halyard;
All other running rigging washed and refurbished;
New named spray dodgers;
Stainless steel outboard bracket refurbished and resealed;
Extra drains fitted to locker channels in cockpit;
High capacity electric bilge pump installed;
Engine water filters checked and found in good condition;
Anode cathode protection re-wired to common block;
Bilges cleaned and painted out throughout the boat;
Engine removed, engine bay painted, engine painted, re-installed;
Fuel tank installation improved, complete re-tube of fuel lines;
New stop taps fitted to tank and carb ends;
New fuel filter agglomerator installed;
New cutlass bearing fitted;
Interior stuffing gland repacked;
Greasing unit re-piped;
2 new Bosch 65 AH batteries installed (5 yr warranty) in new battery boxes;
2 isolators fitted;
Main switchboard rebuilt, boat electrics re-wired;
Engine control electrics refurbished, battery leads etc;
Charging points for solar panels with c/o switch and volt meter fitted;
Engine compressions checked, identical at 60 psi level, Dolphin Marine approved value;
Hull cleaned and re anti fouled, read to go.
