BROKER’S COMMENTS
Beautiful, nearly-new, classic wooden schooner in superb skipper-maintained condition, designed and built by Gannon & Benjamin, Martha’s Vineyard, USA and launched 2001 – their designs are famous for their speed, seaworthiness, practicality and simplicity.
With comfortable accommodation for 8 in four cabins, she displays superb craftsmanship both above and below deck. 1800 sq ft working sail area; 178 bhp Yanmar diesel. Conceived as his ‘dream yacht’ by the designer, to combine blue water cruising with classic racing, she is now fully MCA certified for charter and carries CIM rating.
Winner of the Classics Class at Antigua Classics 2002 and of the ‘je ne sais quoi’ award at the BCYC Regatta in Cowes 2004, she definitely has that WOW! Factor. A joy to own and a delight to sail. Lying Cannes.
HISTORY
Since REBECCA was launched and commissioned in Martha’s Vineyard in 2001, she has benefited from having a full-time professional skipper aboard, so has been maintained to a very high standard. Over the years, a number of minor modifications have been made to her original specification, particularly in connection with obtaining full European chartering status and she now carries an extensive range of high specification safety equipment.
In her five seasons at sea, REBECCA has cruised in Massachusetts and Maine; extensively in the Caribbean; has crossed the Atlantic and cruised in Ireland, and on the west coast of France and Portugal, passing through the Straits of Gibraltar and into the Mediterranean in 2005.
She has taken part in a handful of regattas to date, winning the Sweethearts Regatta in the BVI and the Classics Class in Antigua Classics, 2002. She now has a CIM rating for participating in the Mediterranean Regatta circuit. She has proved to be not only versatile and sea kindly when long distance cruising but also wonderfully balanced, with that extra special turn of speed which comes when a yacht has truly classic lines.
